Branched Oak Observatory

Mission: View Orian’s Belt through the telescope.

Orion's Belt, also known as the "Three Kings." It's made up of three bright blue stars, Alnitak, Alnilam, and Mintaka, that are nearly equally spaced in a line. Orion is one of the oldest constellations in the sky. In Greek mythology, it represents the giant huntsman Orion, who incurred the wrath of the goddess Gaia by saying that he would hunt down every animal on Earth. According to legend, Gaia sent a scorpion to prove him wrong. Orion was unable to defeat the scorpion and met his end after being stung by it.

Museum of American Speed

Mission: Find the Pumpkin Seed.

Built by legend, Bill Burke, the Pumpkin Seed streamliner was a successful land-speed racer. It put multiple drivers in the 200-mph Club. In 1999, it clocked an average speed of 255 miles per hour.

Nebraska History Museum

Mission: Play a game at the Play Unplugged: Historic Games and Pastimes exhibit.

How did Nebraskans in the past keep themselves entertained before video games and TikTok? Explore how Nebraskans of all ages had fun in the past. Try your hand at games played by Indigenous peoples or try some Victorian games like jacks or hoop and stick and more! This exhibit is located on the third floor of the Nebraska History Museum.

Mission: Find the animals.

The ceiling of the Vestibule has one big circle with farmers in the center and smaller blue circles with wild animals in the arches. Find the Nebraska State Mammal, the White-Tailed Deer in an arch. What two animals are beside it? Name three more animals in the small blue circles.

Pioneers Park Nature Center

Mission: Find the Stag

The White-tailed deer are fascinating creatures They have excellent hearing and vision, can run up to 35 mph and jump up to 8 feet high. They also have a strong sense of smell and can even swim. The Nature Center is a great place to observe the animals on exhibit and walk the trails.

Prehistoric Putt Lincoln

Mission: Find the Triceratops.

Triceratops means ‘three horned face’ in Greek. Young triceratops had small, straight horns above its eyes. As it grew, the horns became backward-curving, and then finally, when it reached adulthood, the horns curved forward. As for the horn on its nose, this was made of keratin, which is the same substance that human fingernails and rhino horns are made of. Triceratops was one of the last non-flying dinosaurs to have evolved and was walking the earth when the dinosaurs were wiped out.

Mission: Sit in the drummer’s chair.

Robbers Cave was a former hideout for infamous outlaws Belle Starr and Jesse James. For a time during the 20th century, a section of the cave had a wood stage platform that stood in front of an elevated sandstone ledge serving as the drummer’s chair during performances.

Did you know bowling dates back over 5,000 years? Archaeologists discovered evidence of an early form of bowling in ancient Egypt, where stones were rolled toward small pins in a ritual game. In the 14th century, King Edward III of England banned bowling because it distracted his soldiers from practicing archery. Astronauts aboard the International Space Station have experimented with bowling in zero gravity.

The 2025 theme is "Enchanted Ocean." Leave behind the prairie landscape and imagine yourself in a fantastical world beneath the waves through flowers. White, lavender and shades of blue represent the varying depths of the sea, while pops of yellow, orange and pink introduce vibrant beaches.

University of Nebraska State Museum - Morrill Hall

Mission: Find the rattlesnake and push the button.

In the wild, when rattlesnakes feel threatened, they will rattle their tails to make this noise. This is an indication that they are willing to defend themselves. Rattlesnakes generally coil tightly before striking, as this protective position provides the best platform for which to launch a strike. Generally, they are not aggressive, rattlesnakes strike when threatened or deliberately provoked but given room they will retreat.

UNL Dairy Store

Mission: Taste Sweet Corn ice cream at the UNL Dairy Store.

The Store opened in 1917 and served all-you-can-drink milk for a nickel to those who brought cups. The original name was Varsity Dairy, and it provided dairy products for the UNL dormitories. The Dairy Store is an educational experience for UNL's food science students. In the plants and facilities, students can invent and create products, learn in laboratories, research dairy products and become future food industry problem solvers.
